RECENTLY, I was given a peak at drawings never before shown by Mystic, CT, marine artist David Tod Johnstone. Johnstone, who lives on Mason's Island with his wife Lisa, said that these drawings were completed in the 1980s and have been locked away since then. He gave me photographs of the 11 drawings in the series, which is called "Journey".
The drawings clearly tell a story - but one which Johnstone was not ready to divulge. One picture includes a face which is unmistakably that of the young Tod Johnstone; the other face in the series is that of a young woman. Perhaps, one day, the secretive Mr. Johnstone will tell the tale and mount an exhibit of these works. For now, here is a sampling of the erotic and very beautiful drawings:

Westerly Arts Stroll
Don't miss the monthly Westerly Arts Stroll in Westerly, RI, on the first Wednesday of each month. Galleries and the Westerly Artists Cooperative will be open from 5 - 8 pm. Also, check out the Gallery int he Westerly Library. All venues are free and open to the public.
This is a lovely way to spend a late summer evening - perhaps rounded out with a light supper at one of Westerly's many downtown restaurants. Tell your friends!
